When we went to the eye Dr. for Josh, our friends from church that are from India watched the boys for us. When we came and picked them up, we sat and talked for a while with Shoba and her son and daughter that are teenagers. Shoba was telling us that in the Indian culture, the oldest son takes care of his parents. They come to live with the oldest son and his wife. Shoba's daughter looked at her mom, and said 'Mom, that is the old ways of doing things. Times are changing.' Shoba said that when her father-in-law came in the room, she would stand the whole time he was in there. Finally after a while, he told her she could sit down. She said that the elders are highly respected. Even a person that is one year older than you, you have to listen to them. Of course, Joshua thought he knew more about their culture than they did. He brought his world history book with him to their house. They let him borrow a Bollywood DVD, and a cassette of Indian music. Guess what Josh listens to every morning now instead of Mariachi music? Indian music. I love it though. It's awesome. I told Josh, if he was Indian, he would have to take care of us when we got old. He said that he always wants to live with us. What a sweet boy. If he gets married, I don't think his wife would like his hospitality very much. Unless she's Indian.
