Donald Duck
The other day, we were driving to my in- laws house, (like we do everyday). Joshua starts asking questions, (like he does all day, everyday).
Josh: Why don't we suppose to make fun of anyone?
Bob: Because that hurts their feelings, and we're to love our neighbors as we love ourselves.
Me: I have a story from when I was 6 years old.
Josh: (Screams of joy, clapping his hands together). Ohh, so if you were 6 just like me, how old was your sister?
Me: She was 8.
Josh: Ooo, she's older than me. Ahh, man!
Me: Right, o.k. So, my sister and I were standing on the curb, teasing the boy that lived across the street.
Josh:(interrupting, as he often does) Ooo, you were a bully, huh mommy?
Me: No... well.... maybe. Stop interrupting, Josh. So, we were calling him Donald Duck, because his name was Donald. Then he dared us to come over there, and say it to his face. (Neither of us were allowed to cross the street). We did. As soon as we got over there, we said it, and Kandy was smart enough to turn right back around and run like a bat out of hell. (I didn't say that last part to Josh) Was I right behind my sister, running for my 6 year old life? No, I decided that this would be a good time to stop right at the edge of the curb, and ask God to protect me from Donald Duck. (Like He was going to give me wings and fly across the street or something). Well, "The Duck" had plans of his own. He pushed my sorry butt right into the street. There were lots of screams, and a big srape on my left knee, (I still have the scar to prove it).
Josh: So... if I call Sam, "Sam the Ham," will he push me into the street, then I will get hit by a car, then I will die to Heaven, then you will be sooo sad?
Me: You're goin' a little over board Josh, don't you think? Plus, you don't call Sam that name, right?
Josh: Right.
Me: So, you have nothing to worry about.
Josh: (Silence)
Me: Ahh, there's nothing like frightening the ever loving crud out of your child to make a point.
(I had a Berney Mack moment).
p.s. I apologize to Sam and his parents if Josh has ever said that to him. Happy 6th Birthday Sam!
